Sacramento Attorney Anthony M. Perez Jr. Files Class-Action Lawsuit Against Blue Shield of California

A class-action lawsuit filed against Blue Shield of California, alleging that hundreds of call center employees working for the San Francisco-based health care plan provider were victims of multiple wage and labor violations. The suit was filed in San Francisco County Superior Court by Sacramento attorney Anthony M. Perez Jr. The suit was filed on behalf of between 300 and 400 Blue Shield employees who worked at call centers throughout California, including locations in El Dorado Hills and Rancho Cordova. The class action does not include contracted workers. The class action's allegations include failure to pay lawfully required minimum wages and overtime and failure to provide accurate, timely wage and hour statements. Among the specific, alleged practices outlined in the suit, call center workers contend that they were required to come to work about 15 to 20 minutes early to turn on their computers, assess their screens and respond to technical issues before logging into the Blue Shield time-keeping system and responding to call center inquiries. This practice, the suit alleges, was off-the-clock work for which employees were not compensated. Likewise, the pre-log in work was not reflected in their paychecks.

Blue Shield of California Layoffs 460 Workers

Blue Shield of California announced that it has eliminated up to 460 jobs, including about 300 in Sacramento and the Central Valley, more than 70 in Southern California, and close to 80 in its San Francisco headquarters office and other Bay Area outposts.

Blue Shield of California to Move 650 Employees to Rancho Cordova

Blue Shield of California has signed a 10-year lease to occupy nearly 175,000 square feet in a two-building complex in Rancho Cordova and plans to move hundreds of workers to the site later this year. The company announced that 650 workers from Blue Shield's campus in El Dorado Hills will move to the Rancho Cordova complex between October and December. They will move into 3300 Zinfandel Drive and the neighboring structure at 10834 International Drive - along the Highway 50 corridor. Interior modifications and upgrades will be done at the buildings between now and October.
