It also offers programs that enable sellers to sell their products on company's Websites, and their own branded Websites; and programs, which allow authors, musicians, filmmakers, app developers, and others to publish and sell content. In addition, the company serves developers and enterprises through Amazon Web Services that provides compute, storage, database, analytics, applications, and deployment services that enable virtually various businesses. Further, it manufactures and sells electronic devices, including Kindle e-readers, fire tablets, fire TVs, echo, and fire phones; and provides Kindle Direct Publishing, an online platform that allows independent authors and publishers to make their books available in the Kindle Store. Additionally, the company offers Amazon Prime, an annual membership program, which provides free shipping of various items; access to instant streaming of movies and TV episodes; and access to books to borrow and read on a Kindle device, as well as provides publishing, digital content subscriptions, and advertising services; and co-branded credit card agreements. Amazon.com, Inc. was founded in 1994 and is headquartered in Seattle, Washington.

Amazon.com Inc. Announces Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2015; Provides Consolidated Earnings Guidance for the Third Quarter of 2015

Amazon.com Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported total net sales were $23,185 million compared to $19,340 million for the same period a year ago. Income from operations was $464 million compared to loss from operations of $15 million for the same period a year ago. Income before income taxes was $362 million compared to loss before income taxes of $17 million for the same period a year ago. Net income was $92 million compared to net loss of $126 million for the same period a year ago. Diluted income per share was $0.19 compared to diluted loss per share of $0.27 for the same period a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $1,997 million compared to $862 million for the same period a year ago. Purchases of property and equipment, including internal-use software and website development was $1,213 million compared to $1,290 million for the same period a year ago. For the six months, the company reported total net sales were $45,901 million compared to $39,081 million for the same period a year ago. Income from operations was $719 million compared to $132 million for the same period a year ago. Income before income taxes was $383 million compared to $93 million for the same period a year ago. Net income was $35 million compared to net loss of $18 million for the same period a year ago. Basic and diluted income per share was $0.07 compared to basic and diluted loss per share $0.04 for the same period a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $498 million compared to net cash used in operating activities of $1,640 million for the same period a year ago. Purchases of property and equipment, including internal-use software and website development was $2,084 million compared to $2,370 million for the same period a year ago. The company also provided earnings guidance for the third quarter of 2015. For the period, net sales are expected to be between $23.3 billion and $25.5 billion, or to grow between 13% and 24% compared with third quarter 2014. Operating income is expected to be between negative of $480 million to $70 million. This guidance includes approximately $580 million for stock-based compensation and amortization of intangible assets, and it assumes, among other things, that no additional business acquisitions, investments, restructurings, or legal settlements are concluded and that there are no further revisions to stock-based compensation estimates. The company anticipated consolidated segment operating income, which excludes stock-based compensation and other operating expense, to be between $100 million and $650 million compared to a $136 million loss in the third quarter of 2014.
