What’s happening? London debates pushing back planned checks on European Union imports — again. And it turns out bankers haven’t fled London in the droves once feared.

There’s never a good time to leave the EU, it seems. The U.K. government is debating whether to delay planned checks on imports from the bloc, the fourth extension in rules that are part of its Brexit package. Ministers are worried about adding more costs to businesses and consumers at the moment when the cost-of-living is pinching households. Brexit Opportunities Minister Jacob Rees-Mogg is among those urging Prime Minister Boris Johnson to further extend a grace period on imports that’s due to end in July.
