It's fitting that the first meme to get a mention in this newsletter involves Donald Trump, The Avengers and the trade war.

Shared around the Chinese internet this week was a picture of Avengers supervillain Thanos with President Trump’s face, alongside text observing that just one finger can incur disaster. That of course was after two Trump tweets upended any perceptions that trade talks were moving quickly toward a smooth conclusion.
