French President Emmanuel Macron said Europe’s troubled next-generation fighter jet, the Future Combat Air System, must move forward in spite of squabbles between Dassault Aviation SA and Airbus SE over who should lead the program.

He said he’ll discuss the plan again with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in a bid to make progress. Germany and France are making a last-ditch effort to salvage one of Europe’s most ambitious defense projects, which has become mired in a battle for control between the main companies, as momentum builds in Berlin to bury it.
