Pilots for Deutsche Lufthansa AG and its cargo carrier voted for a strike in their dispute over pensions, raising the risk of disrupted operations just a day after the group set out financial ambitions that require job cuts.

The Vereinigung Cockpit union said Tuesday that at least 88% of the Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo pilots voting supported its position. The ballot was called Sept. 12 after talks with management about the costs of pension plans broke down.
