Former Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro will stand trial on allegations that he attempted a coup following his 2022 election defeat, after a Supreme Court panel unanimously voted to accept criminal charges against him.
All five justices on the panel voted Wednesday in favor of ratifying the charges presented by Brazil’s top prosecutor in February, a procedural step that in criminal cases is taken by a smaller group of judges instead of the court’s full 11 members.
