Brazil’s top prosecutor presented federal charges against Jair Bolsonaro, alleging that the former president attempted a coup after his 2022 election loss.
Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet formally charged Bolsonaro and 33 other people, including military personnel, on Tuesday following recommendations from federal authorities investigating the Jan. 8, 2023 insurrection attempt in Brasilia, when thousands of his supporters stormed government buildings the week after Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva assumed the presidency.
