Finnish Economy Unexpectedly Shrinks as Private Sector Retreats

Finland’s economy surprised with a fourth-quarter contraction after nine months of expansion as consumers and businesses remain cautious.

Gross domestic product adjusted for seasonal swings shrank 0.2% on the quarter, following a revised 0.5% expansion in the prior three-month period, Statistics Finland said on Friday. A flash estimate had indicated growth of 0.1%.
