Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro’s minority government got backing from opposition parties including the Socialists to defeat a censure motion presented by far-right party Chega.

Only Chega’s lawmakers voted in favor of the motion, Jose Pedro Aguiar Branco, the parliament’s president, said in Lisbon on Friday. Socialist leader Pedro Nuno Santos had already announced his group would vote against Chega’s proposal, saying the motion served only to deflect attention from the far-right party’s internal problems.
