Methodology
All line charts except Mortgage Delinquency display percent change since 1995
Data are derived from the Bloomberg Economic Evaluation of States (BEES) indicies. BEES allows you to compare the economic performance of individual states over a designated time period. It is constructed by using a methodology similar to other economic indicators published by the U.S. Conference board. All index components are equally weighted. The index data is normalized to reduce volatility introduced by any one component.
The BEES index is calculated using the following components:
Mortgage Percent Delinquent: The percentage of first mortgage loans secured by one to four unit residences that are 90+ days delinquent or in the process of foreclosure. Source: Mortgage Bankers Association
State Personal Income: Total income of all persons residing in the state from all sources. Source: Bureau of Economic Analysis
Tax Revenue: The Quarterly Summary of State and Local Government Tax Revenue provides quarterly estimates of detailed tax revenue data for individual states. Source: US Census Bureau
Employment: Total number of employees in the state in non-farm sectors. Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics
Home Prices: Average price of repeat sales or refinancing of single family homes within the state. Source: Federal Housing Finance Agency
Bloomberg State Stock Index: Measures the performance of publicly traded companies that are primarily domiciled in a specific state. Index is market cap weighted stock index.
