State Dept was not aware that Janice Jacobs, its newly appointed “transparency coordinator,” has donated $2,700, the maximum legal amount, to Hillary Clinton’s Democratic presidential campaign, State Dept spokesman John Kirby says at briefing.
- Jacobs made the contribution after retiring from State Dept last year, he says; she is ex-ambassador to Senegal
- “It bears no relevance on her selection”: Kirby
- “The fact that she made a donation to Hillary Clinton bears no relevance on her ability to do this job and to do it objectively and fairly”
