Germany Pushes EU to Speed Decisions to Compete With US, China

The European Union needs to move with far more agility in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment to compete with the US and China, Germany’s top diplomat said as he laid out a series of reform proposals.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said Berlin will make a harder push for faster decision making. That includes so-called enhanced cooperation between smaller groups of EU member states in more policy areas — and redoubling efforts to end the bloc’s principle of unanimity for matters of defense and security.
