Rubio Says Neither US, China Want Asia Destabilized Over Taiwan
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he expects President Donald Trump and Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to discuss Taiwan when they meet next week and that neither nation wants to destabilize the Indo-Pacific region.
“The Chinese understand our position on that topic, we understand theirs,” Rubio said at a White House press briefing on Tuesday. “Both countries understand that it is in neither one of our interests to see anything destabilized happen in that part of the world. We don’t need any destabilizing events to occur with regards to Taiwan or anywhere in the Indo-Pacific.”
