Montenegro’s President Tells Central Bank Chief to Fight Critics
Montenegro’s president needs no persuading about the virtues of an independent central bank. The former economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development personally picked Governor Irena Radovic and is urging her “to withstand the pressure, to fight.”
“I was the one who nominated the central bank governor, and we have an educated professional with relevant experience,” Jakov Milatovic said in an interview Tuesday at the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia. “The one thing I have asked of her was to defend the independence of the central bank and not to allow any kind of political interference. She has kept the promise.”
