Strong, damaging winds and heavy rains struck China on Saturday, leading to a threat of sandstorms and the cancellation of flights and trains.

China’s meteorological authority renewed an orange alert on Saturday for strong gales that are expected to sweep across the northern regions and coastal areas over the weekend. Gusts of up to 41 meters per second, or 92 miles an hour are forecast in parts of Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Hebei and Beijing between 8 a.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday.
