French presidential hopeful Alain Juppe said that France and Europe need to defend their interests in the wake of Donald Trump’s U.S. election victory.

“The world needs an American democracy that is at ease and that contributes to balance in the world,” Juppe said in an e-mailed statement. “It’s up to France and Europe to position themselves and defend their own interests while talking to the American administration.”
