Readership figures released Thursday showed a handful of bright spots in an overall dismal British newspaper industry.
Three papers managed to buck the long-term downward trend. The Times, owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., managed to increase its print circulation 12 percent year-on-year in September, narrowing the gap with its main rival, the Daily Telegraph. The Times likely absorbed readers from the Independent, whose print operation closed in March.
