A Claude Monet painting estimated to sell for $45 million will lead Christie’s Impressionist and modern art evening sale in New York next month.
The 1891 painting, “Meule,” of a hay stack at sunset, will be offered on Nov. 16, Christie’s said in a statement Friday. The work last appeared at auction in 1999 when it fetched $11.9 million. The current owner is an anonymous American collector who bought the work privately in 2002, the auction house said.
