French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said Saturday 50 French riot policemen have been deployed on the island of Lesbos in eastern Greece as part of an effort to reinforce European Union borders.

France will also deploy 22 policemen and 50 gendarmes on the island of Chios on Sunday and Monday to join Frontex, the European agency in charge of securing external borders, Cazeneuve said in an e-mailed statement.
