China Appoints Ning Jizhe Head of National Bureau of Statistics

China has made another high-profile appointment at a government body after replacing the chief of the nation’s securities regulator earlier this month.

Ning Jizhe, who is also vice chairman of China’s top planning body the National Development and Reform Commission, will concurrently hold the post of head and party chief at the National Bureau of Statistics, according to statement on the stats bureau website.

Ning was named deputy head of the NDRC in August last year. He said it is difficult for China to reverse a slowdown in exports and industrial investment, Sina.com reported in November. Liu Shiyu was appointed head of the China Securities Regulatory Commission earlier this month, replacing Xiao Gang, who was criticized for mismanagement of the stock rout last year.
