McCain Favors U.S. Troops, Arab Armies to Take Raqqa From ISIS

U.S. Senator John McCain said a coalition of Sunni Arab armies and a “few thousand” U.S. troops should take the Syrian city of Raqqa from Islamic State fighters.

“A coalition composed of a number of the Sunni Arab countries, including Turkey” along with “American participation of some few thousand” would be sufficient to take the Islamic State’s base in eastern Syria, according to McCain, a Republican who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee,

McCain also favors establishing a no-fly zone over Syria, he said Sunday at the Munich Security Conference.
