A blaze in Mumbai at one of the many events to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India campaign was brought under control and all people were safe, a local official told reporters.

The stage at the venue by the beach in South Mumbai caught fire as a dance show was on, prompting authorities to evacuate guests and performers, Devendra Fadnavis, chief minister of Maharashtra state, said in televised comments.

Invitees to the event included many Bollywood celebrities and top government officials from the state.

Inaugurating a week-long show in Mumbai on Saturday, at a different venue, to promote his flagship Make in India program, Modi exhorted global companies to set up their factories in India, promising to ensure a friendlier regime for investors.
