Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi emphasized the importance of national reconciliation at the opening of a peace meeting, just weeks before her longtime opposition party takes control of the government.
"Without national reconciliation, we cannot build long-lasting peace,” Suu Kyi said in a speech Tuesday at the opening of the Union Peace Conference in the capital Naypyitaw. “Based on the mandate given to us by the people, we are ready to work to get eternal peace. I hope all people participate in it."
