Turkey, a NATO ally and candidate to join the European Union, is facing a mounting security challenge in the face of attacks by Islamic State, Kurdish and leftist militants. The latest attack killed at least 10 people in Istanbul’s main touristic site on Tuesday. Below is a list of recent attacks in the country.

- Jan 12, 2016: An explosion in Istanbul’s main tourist area, Sultanahmet, leaves at least 10 dead and 15 wounded. Police are investigating whether the blast was a suicide bombing.
