Westar Energy Inc., the Topeka, Kansas-based electric utility, agreed to buy power from a 200-megawatt wind project that NextEra Energy Inc. is developing in Kansas.

The utility signed a 20-year power-purchase agreement with the Kingman Wind Energy Center, Westar spokeswoman Gina Penzig said in an interview Thursday. It also has the option to buy a 50 percent stake in the project, according to a Westar statement Thursday. The farm in Kingman County is expected to be operational by early 2017.
