U.S. Says Takata Air Bag Recalls May Widen to More Carmakers

The Takata Corp. air-bag recall already affecting a dozen automakers in the U.S. may widen as the nation’s regulator heightens its scrutiny of the devices.
Volkswagen AG, Daimler AG, Jaguar Land Rover and Tesla Motors Inc. are among carmakers still using Takata air bags with ammonium nitrate, a chemical propellant that U.S. safety regulators are no longer confident in. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said those automakers could also be affected by recalls that already involve about 19 million vehicles.
