Peru declared a state of emergency in areas surrounding MMG Ltd.’s copper mine project after clashes left at least three people dead.

Armed forces will help police maintain order for 30 days after protesters entered the mine site in Challhuahuacho, in the southern Andes mountains, Interior Minister Jose Luis Perez told Lima-based Panamericana TV on Tuesday. More police officers are being deployed to join the 1,500 already in the zone, Perez said.
