Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff has enough support at this time to prevent impeachment hearings from starting, according to congressional leaders.
Leaders who say they currently don’t see grounds for impeachment hail from the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party, the largest in Congress, and eight other parties that altogether account for about 300 lawmakers in the lower house. For impeachment hearings to begin, at least 342 out of 513 house legislators must support the request.
