Gazprom Deals Show German-Russia Thaw as Normandy Talks Beckon

Two deals with German companies involving Gazprom PJSC show the determination of business leaders to get relations between Europe and Russia back on an even keel as attempts at rapprochement over the Ukraine conflict linger.

BASF SE, the German chemical maker with a global oil and gas business, Friday revived an asset swap agreement with Gazprom that had been shelved because of the political tensions sparked by Russia’s annexation of Crimea. It also signed a separate agreement, alongside EON SE and other European companies, for shares in a North Sea natural-gas pipeline project with Gazprom.
