A jet part found on Reunion island belonged to Malaysia Airlines’ missing Flight 370, the Paris prosecutors’ office said, citing numbers on the part and providing the first conclusive link to the vanished jet.

One of the three numbers identified corresponds to the serial number of the lost Boeing 777, the office said in an e-mailed statement. The announcement confirms comments by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak last month that the part was “conclusively” connected to the plane, which disappeared in March 2014 with 239 people on board.
