The U.S. proposed a United Nations resolution to impose an arms embargo on South Sudan and targeted sanctions after the East African nation’s president refused to sign a peace deal to end a 20-month civil war.

A draft resolution was circulated to all 15 members of the UN Security Council on Wednesday and the text may be adopted within the next two weeks, a U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity citing policy, told reporters in New York.
