Akamai Wins Appeal in $45.5 Million Limelight Patent Case

Akamai Technologies Inc. finally won an almost decade-long patent-infringement fight with Limelight Networks Inc. over ways to store and deliver video content on the Internet. Limelight shares dropped the most in four years.
Ten judges of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit voted unanimously that Limelight had infringed an Akamai patent. The decision issued Thursday effectively revives a $45.5 million infringement verdict that had been thrown out in 2009, though the court said a three-judge panel must still address “residual issues.”
