The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks have yet to make a significant splash during a busy start to the National Basketball Association free-agency period that’s seen players pull in almost $1.5 billion in contracts over the past two days.
The Knicks made their first free-agent pickup on Thursday, agreeing with shooting guard Arron Afflalo on a contract that ESPN says is worth $16 million over the next two years. New York lost out on a bigger target, however, when 6-foot-11 power forward Greg Monroe agreed to a three-year, $50 million maximum-value deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to ESPN.
