Staples, Office Depot Drop After Sysco Decision Stokes Fears

Staples Inc. and Office Depot Inc. fell after a court ruling that halted a food-industry deal raised worries that the office-supply companies could see their merger blocked as well.

Staples, which agreed to acquire Office Depot for about $6 billion in February, dropped 4.6 percent to $15.85 Wednesday in New York, a day after a judge granted a request by the Federal Trade Commission to block Sysco Corp.’s takeover of US Foods Inc. Shares of Office Depot declined 2.4 percent to $8.89.
