Spar Group Ltd. said first half-profit jumped 22 percent after the South African food and liquor retailer acquired its Irish counterpart and sold more lower-priced own-brand products.
Net income rose to 784 million rand ($65.8 million) in the six months through March from 643 million rand a year earlier, Durban-based Spar said in a statement on Wednesday. That growth was more than double the 9.4 percent gain posted in the first six months of fiscal 2014.
