Southern Copper Corp. will suspend plans to build a $1.4 billion mine in Peru after protests against the project turned violent.
“No political or business interest can be more important than life and peace,” Southern’s Chief Executive Officer Oscar Gonzalez Rocha said in an e-mailed statement Friday.
