Amber Rudd was promoted to energy secretary and the leader of the House of Lords, Tina Stowell, was elevated to full cabinet level, bringing to seven the number of women holding that status. Cameron won an unexpected majority in the House of Commons in last week’s election, enabling him to revamp his government and fill places previously held by Liberal Democrats in the previous coalition.
