Apple Pushes Ahead With Green Efforts in China Through Forestry

Apple Inc. will push ahead with new ways to promote renewable energy and environmental protection in China.

Efforts include a new multi-year project with the World Wildlife Fund to increase responsibly managed forests across China, the world’s largest company by market value said in a statement.

The forestland program aims to protect as many as 1 million acres of responsibly managed working forests, which provide fiber for pulp, paper and wood products.

In April, Apple and SunPower Corp. announced a plan to back two solar farms in southwestern Sichuan province.

“We are excited to work with leaders in our supply chain who want to be on the cutting edge of China’s green transformation,” Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said in the statement.

Apple also intends to expand renewable energy projects to manufacturing facilities in China.
