Wan Azizah Wan Ismail defeated three other candidates to win the Malaysian parliamentary seat that her husband, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, was forced to vacate after he was jailed for sodomy.

Wan Azizah won Permatang Pauh, a constituency that’s been an opposition stronghold since 1999 and in the family for more than three decades. She secured 58 percent of valid votes cast Thursday, near Anwar’s 59 percent in the 2013 general election.
