IPad App Flaw Leads Some American Pilots to Use Paper Charts

A fault in software on American Airlines’ iPads means pilots flying to and from Washington’s Reagan airport may have to revert back to paper navigational charts for more than a week.
The glitch occurred Tuesday during an update of displays for Reagan, blocking the third-party app on Apple Inc. iPads used in American’s cockpits around the country. The malfunction delayed 74 flights Tuesday and Wednesday, according to American. The Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier has 6,700 daily flights.
