Gambia’s main opposition leader said police are blocking his convoy as he seeks to set off on a tour of the provinces without a permit for public meetings.

Ousainou Darbo, head of the United Democratic Party, said in a phone interview on Friday that his vehicles have been blocked by a paramilitary police unit outside the village of Fass Njaga Choi in Gambia’s North Bank Region. He said no force has been used against the group.
