NBA Players Association Names Tara Greco as Communications Chief

Tara Greco, a former communications executive with Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Deloitte & Touche, has been named media relations chief of the union that represents National Basketball Association players.

The hiring of Greco, who has a finance degree from the College of William and Mary, is the latest staff addition under Executive Director Michele Roberts, who last year became the first female leader of a major U.S. pro sports union.

Greco joins at a critical time for the union, which is girding for a work stoppage.

The collective bargaining agreement expires after the 2020-21 season. Owners and players can opt out of the contract after the 2016-17 season. Greco will oversee all union communications, including traditional and social media.

Greco started her career in the front office of the NBA’s Washington Bullets, who were renamed the Wizards. She also spent seven years with APCO Worldwide, a global communications consultancy, and has worked for non-profit organizations America’s Promise and Reading Is Fundamental.
