Seattle employers will begin phasing in a minimum-wage increase on Wednesday, part of a nationwide push to help low-income workers as the gap between rich and poor widens.

The required hourly minimum will jump to $11 from $9.47 for Starbucks Corp. and other large employers, while smaller companies can pay $10 and make up the difference with tips or medical-benefit payments. All businesses will pay $15 by 2021.
