Uber Technologies Inc. suspended a driver in France who is accused of sexually assaulting a passenger, in the latest setback in Europe for the San Francisco-based network of chauffeur-driven cars.

Uber France “deplores” the presumed attack, the company said in an e-mailed statement today. “Safety is an absolute priority.” The case is the first of this kind of assault in Europe, according to Uber spokesman Thomas Meister.
