Platinum coin sales at Perth Mint in Australia have topped last year’s total as the drop in prices to the lowest in five years spurs demand.

The mint sold 1,500 one-ounce platypus platinum coins this week and 600 are set to leave for New York on Friday, the mint said in an e-mail. Sales totaled 1,616 last year and 2,000 in 2013 from 26,580 in 2012, mint data show.
