Turkish consumer price inflation accelerated more than estimated in February as concerns over the surging cost of food were countered by a drop in a core inflation index watched by the central bank.

Consumer inflation rate rose to 7.55 percent from 7.24 percent in the previous month, missing the median estimate of 7.42 percent in a Bloomberg survey of economists. While food prices rose by an annual 13.7 percent, a core inflation index seen by the central bank as a key indicator of pricing behavior slowed to 7.73 percent, a report by Turkstat in Ankara showed.
