The City of London’s role as Europe’s financial center is threatened by the prospect of a British departure from the European Union, Lord Mayor Alan Yarrow said.
Yarrow, a former Dresdner Kleinwort banker, said that he wasn’t in favor of a referendum on EU membership as advocated by Prime Minister David Cameron. Yet if Cameron’s Conservative Party wins the May 7 election, it would be better if they brought the proposed referendum forward and held it in 2016 to remove instability, he said.
