Erdogan Questions Loyalties of Turkish Central Bank; Lira Drops

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan questioned the central bank’s loyalties as he renewed criticism of its rates policy, prompting a slump in the lira.
Erdogan told a trade group in Ankara that he wouldn’t object to the bank’s independence as long as policy makers “protect the interest of the nation and the country,” and suggested it may currently have other goals. “Is some other place taking these people under its influence?” he said.
