Lawmakers in Turkey’s parliament beat each other until several required medical treatment early Wednesday, as tensions boiled over in a debate over a new package of laws seeking to grant police greater powers.
Musa Cam and Refik Eryilmaz from the opposition Republican People’s Party were treated at an Ankara hospital after the brawl while three other opposition deputies, including one from the nation’s pro-Kurdish HDP, were treated for light injuries at a clinic inside parliament, state-run Anadolu Agency said. Cam may have a crushed rib, it reported.
